march tome
This post details the state of the game: updates, future plans, the upcoming calendar, and an update to the lore. Feel free to comment on this post with any questions.
activity check open

  • AC is open! It will remain open today, March 20, through the end of the month, March 31, at 10:00 PM CST. This is our first round of the game, so AC this go is check-in (and bonus points) only.

game updates

  • Location update: in February, characters were led to the grove! The grove has been added as a permanent location.

future adjustments

  • Applications will be open perpetually once they reopen on March 25. We’ve decided a limited application cycle doesn’t make sense for Pareidolia.
  • We're slowing down. Our intention is for Pareidolia to be a game with a relaxed pace, and we’re still figuring that out:
    • The TDM will be every four months rather than every other month.
    • There will be some sort of mingle or CR-building event every month mid-month in the form of a mingle, CR meme, or NPC log.
  • We’re lowering the player cap to 20. We’re blown away by the intensity of the interpersonal CR relationships already forming, and want to aim to have enough time to focus on the environmental and story reactions to the characters and their actions – so we’re aiming to keep it manageable on our end. This still leaves 10 slots open for new players.
If there are any concerns or objections about any of these changes, just let us know.

an addition to the library
In the last days of the month, any observant character might notice a new addition gracing the pedestal. Opening it reveals the contents of a journal: a blocky hand fills the page; the thin, scrawling writing of another annotates the margins of the pages.
𐤀‎
And so, it has begun. They arrive here as they always do, confused and wary and afraid. They have found their habitations without difficulty, and the food in the gathering hall as well. So far, they offer each other no violence. Already the alliances have begun to form, and some enmity as well. This rabble is rather dull to me. I will keep watching, all the same. - ⚳
They have found the sanctuary now, and all the visions it currently contains. The elder thief wanted to slay 🜍; a foolish notion indeed. The furry one persuaded the thief otherwise, but not easily. I suspect the thief will return and try again. - ⚳
Of course he will. It's too terrible an idea. He won't be able to resist.
Things are livelier this morning. None of them like what they found written on their doors, save for the blind one, who cannot see it, and the elder thief, who seemed to be proud. Several tried to erase the writing; without success, of course. The king forced the elder thief to wash his for him, which dampened the thief’s pride somewhat. That, at least, was more interesting. I cannot imagine it will end well. - ⚳
The pink fae and the younger thief have murdered a crow. I will restrain myself. For now. - ⚳
Magnanimous of you! Are you sure you're feeling all right?
They have discovered the workings of the book now. The furry one went to great lengths to affix warnings to the lectern, but the others continue to touch. People remain people, foolish in the same familiar ways. What has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. - ⚳
The pink fae has been busy in the herbalary. Her labels are inaccurate, which appears to be a deliberate choice. Some trap for the unwary is underway. - ⚳
The furry one has learned to braid rope. He is dedicating a great amount of time to it. I did not hear what use he intends for it, but the amount he is making offers a clue. I expect he hopes to venture beyond the boundaries. I will update whenever he tries it; that should be amusing to watch. - ⚳
The elder thief has outdone himself; he has stolen the king’s door to display as a prize outside the hall of meeting. More surprising, he persuaded the timid woman to assist him. We must see what the others do when they see it, and how the king reacts when he wakes. - ⚳
𐤁
The elder thief has gathered a flock: the furry one, the younger thief, the timid woman, and the soldier. It may be the nearest thing to a wise decision he has made, considering he also continues to gather enemies. The sickly scholar and his companion have more restraint than the king, at least, and the scholar hopes for unity. I do not think he will achieve it without a show of strength. We will see. - ⚳
Murder.
I have led most of them to the pit now, though a few remain stiff-necked. The sickly scholar was most interested in our vessels, to his body’s detriment. He appears perceptive, but his companion has more sense. - ⚳
I'll keep an eye on him. I don't think getting those open is the kind of show of strength you have in mind.
The younger thief is a capable tiller of soil. I have watched him often this month as he teaches the others. He is rarely alone in his work. The sickly scholar has mostly succeeded in organizing the populace, including most of the elder thief’s flock. (Flock is also correct. Do not test me.) - ⚳
Cauldron? Horde? Parliament?
The small creature has been venturing out to harvest and map the town. It is perhaps the least capable for these tasks, or any tasks, given its size and lack of hands. Yet it goes anyway. Let that be a lesson to you to stop correcting my notes and do something useful. - ⚳
Vengeance is the king’s, at least for now. No doubt the elder thief would regret not bringing a companion in crime, were the dead capable of regret. Then again, once the thief returns to life, the king may regret revealing so much about his true nature to such an implacable foe. Pride goes before destruction, as it is said. - ⚳
If ever there were a haughty spirit.
I predicted the king would feel regret; I did not predict the pink fae would be involved. Two deaths within days, both of them violent. Now that they know death is impermanent, will we see that pace continue? There will be no way to conceal it from the others this time, least of all with the horny one involved. - ⚳
Are you sure I can't correct something here?
The horny one is still making a nuisance of himself. It is quite something to watch. I have never considered faculty for tantrums to be a talent before, but between throwing the small creature across the premises and setting fire to the trees, he has convinced me it can be. (Which is not to call it a worthwhile talent or suggest such talents deserve rewarding. I will not. Do not get ideas.) - ⚳
I think you mean horned. But you aren't wrong.
